There are few people who are gifted with so many creative talents, exquisite taste, and aesthetic flair, as Judit Gummlich!

Long before Judit achieved worldwide fame in the knitting community with her wonderful and enthusiastically celebrated book „Embroidery on Knits“, we had plans to host a retreat together. Now it is finally happening, and we are delighted to welcome her as our workshop teacher at our Spring Gourmet-Knitting-Retreat "Embroidered Knits" from Thursday, April 25 to Sunday, April 28, 2024.

Judit Gummlich, also known on social media as @ku.ni.ber.ta, is a highly versatile textile artist and skilled craftswoman who has been working in the costume department at a theatre in Hamburg for more than 20 years. Not limited to the following, she is a passionate knitter, gardener, parttime crocheters, beekeeper and nature lover. Regardless of the craft, her creations are characterized by loving details, harmonious aesthetics, and a perfect finish!

Judit lives with her husband, the bees and her two cats in the countryside just outside Hamburg.

1) Eye delight - Your favourite views, sights or reads? Colours, books, movies?
The view of my garden in late summer, a look at my bee colonies, the endless blue tones of the North Sea and the sky at my favourite place in North Jutland.
Old books about botany or insects.
The colours of nature and those I find in art: museums are among my favourite places.
Essays and non-fiction books, poetry and quiet, often melancholy films from Finland or Japan.

2) Close to the skin - What are your favourite feels/things to touch?
The wind in my face, the warmth of my cats, earth in my hands.

3) Balance - What puts your life in balance?
Friends, gardening, beekeeping and crafting.

4) Scent cloud - Favourite odours/smells/perfumes?
perfume: "Levanthium" by Penhaligon's (musk, sandalwood, oud, cedar).
Beeswax, wild roses in summer, freshly ground coffee.

5) Tasty delights - Favourite tastes/flavours/food?
Bitter orange marmalade, capers, cheese, earl grey, truffle, honey.

6) Ear candy - Favourite songs, sounds and noises…?
Leaves rustling in the wind, birds chirping, cats purring, bees buzzing.
Music: Early music/renaissance music, 40s to 70s, singer/songwriter, metal.
